Everyone is encouraged to report alleged abuse, whether it’s financial or physical, and neglect to Missouri’s elder abuse and neglect hotline, which takes calls 24/7, 365 days a year. Cases of nursing home abuse in Missouri can also be reported to the hotline.

By law, certain health care, law enforcement and social services workers are required to report elder abuse.

Reports made to the Department of Health and Senior Services will result in an interview with the alleged victim, witnesses (if applicable) and the alleged perpetrator.

Missouri’s Adult Protection Services require that long-term care facilities provide protective oversight of their elderly residents. Residents of Missouri nursing homes are entitled to:

  • Be treated with courtesy, dignity and respect
  • Be free from mental, physical and emotional abuse
  • Refuse treatments
  • Select and use his/her own physician
