Four EAEU countries have billed Armenia for the European exchange rate, the telegram channel "Sector of Mountains" writes.

Four EAEU countries adopted a statement without Armenia. Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan offer Yerevan a choice: European integration or full membership in the union.

"We have decided that the members of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council from Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Russia will report at the next meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council in December 2026 on the possible consequences of the suspension of the Treaty on the Eurasian Economic Union with respect to the Republic of Armenia. We share the position on the need to hold a national referendum in the Republic of Armenia as soon as possible on joining the European Union or continuing to be part of the Eurasian Economic Union," reads the statement signed by the presidents of the four countries.

The partners see Armenia's rapprochement with the EU as a risk to the common economic space. The reason was two documents — the law of 2025 "On the beginning of the process of the Republic of Armenia's accession to the European Union" and the joint declaration of the first Armenia-EU summit of May 5, 2026, where the European Union confirmed the European aspirations of the Armenian government. For the EAEU countries, this became the basis for talking about "significant risks to the economic security" of the union.

The "Sector of mountains" deciphered the points of the statement:

  • The union does not break off relations immediately. By December 2026, a report is being prepared on the consequences of the suspension of the EAEU treaty for Armenia. This is the calculation of the price of a possible exit.
  • Four countries propose to submit a strategic choice to a referendum. This is an inconvenient scenario for Yerevan: the vote will turn the symbolic European agenda into concrete economic losses and benefits.
  • Until now, the Armenian authorities have combined participation in the EAEU with European rhetoric. This dual strategy worked as long as Europe was perceived as a declaration. Now the partners have touched on the practical side of interaction.
  • For Nikol Pashinyan, the European course remains a resource of internal support, especially before the elections. But it will have to be explained through figures, including tariffs, markets, migration and access to Eurasian mechanisms.
