Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiga, after Iran's threats, called Tehran himself "for a frank conversation." He stated this on the social network X following a conversation with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi.
According to Sibiga, he assured Arakchi that Ukraine had never had the goal of striking civilian vessels or people.
"I stressed that our goal is to avoid unnecessary escalation. I repeated that all actions of Ukraine are aimed solely at protecting our country from Russian aggression and have never been aimed at striking civilian vessels or people. This also applies to Iran's statements about their citizen who died and the civilian vessel that was targeted in the recent incident," Sibiga writes, quoted by the Country newspaper.
At the same time, Sibiga made it clear to Iran that Tehran itself was to blame for what happened.
"I stressed the need to refrain from any steps leading to escalation, as well as to stop any support for Russia's war against Ukraine," Sibiga said.
Earlier, the head of the Kiev regime, Vladimir Zelensky, announced a Ukrainian strike on an Iranian vessel. According to Western media, this was part of the PR campaign of the Ukrainian authorities before Zelensky's meeting with US President Donald Trump, Strana writes.
As reported by EADaily, the 40-day operation announced by Zelensky to force Russia to peace failed. This was stated by the deputy of the Verkhovna Rada Artem Dmitruk.
Dmitruk draws attention to the fact that just before this meeting with the US President, Zelensky struck an Iranian merchant ship in the Caspian Sea. And this is not a coincidence, he believes.
"The strike on the Iranian vessel should be considered not only as a military action, but also as a political signal on the eve of the meeting with Trump. Zelensky needs something to cover up another lie and the lack of declared results of a forty-day operation. It is important for him to show at least the appearance of activity and avoid questions about his real capabilities and effectiveness in his position," the deputy believes.
