Finland is blocking Russia's access to the European Internet. This is reported by ru.investing.com .
The Finnish energy company Fingrid has indeed notified Russian operators about the termination of maintenance of power transmission poles, on which fiber-optic communication lines are suspended, from 2027.
After Russia stopped supplying electricity to Finland in 2022, it became economically impractical for both Fingrid and Rosseti to maintain the transmission line infrastructure in the interests of telecom operators.
Currently, about 60-70% of Russia's foreign Internet traffic passes through the Finnish route.
The operators claim that traffic can be redirected via alternative routes — through Belarus, the Baltic States and submarine cables in the Baltic Sea.
If the missing bandwidth is not fully compensated, overloads, delays and deterioration of the quality of access to foreign resources, especially in the European part of Russia, are possible.
The internal Internet will not be affected: it is about access to foreign services and external communication channels.
