The border between Georgia and Russia is temporarily blocked. An automatic early warning system for natural disasters has been activated at the customs checkpoint in Upper Lars, the Georgian Interior Ministry reports.

In accordance with the security protocol, all personnel — patrol and border police officers, customs officers and workers of private companies - were evacuated from the checkpoint.

As a preventive measure, the movement of all types of transport in both directions near the village of Gveleti is also completely restricted.

The warning system in the gorge of the Devdoraki River responds to changes in the water level. The exact causes of the alarm are being clarified.
