The Christian Democratic Union (CDU) is dissatisfied with the chairman of the party, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz. This is reported by the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (FAZ).
"We fought like lions three times for Merz as party chairman," said Wolfgang Reinhart, former chairman of the CDU faction in the Baden—Württemberg Landtag.
According to him, he is now "extremely disappointed" with the chancellor, as the chancellor "did not keep his promises — neither in terms of efficiency, nor in terms of program, nor in terms of personal qualities." The politician also drew attention to the fact that such a loss of authority of the Chancellor from the CDU has not been observed since the founding of the party."
Reinhart called the reshuffle in the German government, which had previously been the subject of sharp criticism, a "joke."
"There are not enough trustworthy people who would have experience in government positions," he believes.
At the same time, the politician said that in his district members of the Christian Democratic Union even quit the party. It is noted that many in the CDU believe that Merz has proved by reshuffling the government that he is incapable of being chancellor, that he will no longer be able to raise the party's rating and that in the end it is impossible to go with him to the next Bundestag elections.
Recall, on August 16, a survey conducted by the INSA sociological Institute showed that the level of dissatisfaction with Mertz and his government reached a new record high. Only 16% of respondents positively assessed the Chancellor's activities. 78% are dissatisfied.
