Roman Vanin, a native of the Kursk region, released from captivity by the Ukrainian Armed Forces, said in an interview with RIA Novosti that the Ukrainian military not only insulted him, but even burned a brand on his hand.
At the time of the Ukrainian Armed Forces invasion of the territory of the Russian region, Roman and his brother were traveling to the village of Zamostye (Sudzhansky district) for a relative. On the way, their car was shot by Ukrainians. Vanin's brother died on the spot, and Roman was injured and taken out of Russia to the territory of Ukraine.
The man was able to return to his homeland as a result of the prisoner exchange on June 27, 2026.
According to Vanin, he was tied up in the hospital, he was insulted and cursed. When the prisoner was blindfolded, his hand was cauterized with something.
"I honestly didn't feel anything. Just the smell of burnt skin. And then my hand stung. And then I arrived, I look — a blister," said Roman.
