The former ambassador of Ecuador to the United States and France, Yvonne Baki, who is applying for the post of UN Secretary General, said that Ukraine's non-alignment with NATO can be made a condition for resolving the Ukrainian crisis.

"I believe that Russia and Ukraine should sit down together at the UN and talk. I think there was an agreement that Russia does not want NATO to be around. Let's agree on this... if Russia can stop the war, and Ukraine can decide that it will not be part of NATO, <> it is possible to come to an agreement," TASS quoted Baki as saying.

In addition to Baki, seven people are applying for the post of Secretary General in 2026. This is the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Rafael Grossi (Argentina), Secretary General of the UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) Rebecca Greenspan (Costa Rica), former President of Chile and former UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet, former President of Senegal Macky Salle, former Minister of Foreign Affairs and former Minister of Defense of Ecuador Maria Fernanda Espinosa Garces, Permanent Representative of Guyana to the UN Caroline Rodriguez-Birkett and former Permanent Representative of Uganda to the UN Olara Otunnu.
