The head of European diplomacy, Kaya Kallas, has lost her father. An influential member of the CPSU in the country remained so even after the country gained independence.

"Siim Kallas has died. The father of the current head of the European diplomacy died at the age of 78 on the night of Friday to Saturday," Baltnews reports.

Kallas is an experienced Estonian politician who has retained power and influence since Soviet times, because he was a member of the CPSU for 18 years, the publication noted.

"Immediately after gaining independence, he headed the Bank of Estonia and founded the Reform Party, and even managed to be the Prime Minister of the republic, Minister of Finance, Foreign Minister and European Commissioner. Then, as is customary in many democratic societies, he transferred all available connections and opportunities to his daughter," Baltnews writes.
