The victory of the Alternative for Germany (AfD) in the elections in Saxony-Anhalt is a signal for traditional parties and may lead to further aggravation of relations with Russia. This was stated by the Prime Minister of Slovakia Robert Fico.

According to him, the election results should be viewed primarily as a reaction to the policies of established parties. During the election campaign, Alternative for Germany actively used anti-migration, criticism of Germany's current policy towards Russia and Ukraine, as well as dissatisfaction with economic development among some residents. At the same time, Fico called the reasons for the electoral defeats of traditional political forces even more general.

"In general, if the ruling parties fail in the fight against illegal migration, are belligerent and support wars, and also do not want to recognize the threatening impact of European climate policy on competitiveness, they lose, and they are replaced by other parties offering often simple, but still solutions," he said.

In addition, Fico was extremely wary of the further development of Germany's relations with Russia.

"I have one wish. So that the results of the regional elections in Germany do not lead to the proposal of war with Russia as the only way to mask the defeat of the ruling parties. Because, as the old saying goes, Germany does not make small mistakes," the Slovak prime minister stressed.

Recall, on September 6, the Alternative for Germany party achieved a historic result in the elections in Saxony-Anhalt . According to the final data, she received 43.8% of the vote and 39 of the 83 seats in the parliament of the land. Chancellor Friedrich Merz's CDU received 17.2%.
