An environmental unit is currently being formed in Eastern Military District to continue works on Big Shantar Island in Arctic, Russian Defense Ministry announced today, on May 15.
According to the source, it is anticipated that military environmentalists will collect and cut bulk metal scrap and press empty containers weighting over 50 tons in total. Besides, specialists of the environmental unit are expected to dismantle and dispose about 20 destroyed buildings and structures, clean and reclaim about 1.500m2 lands.
Hydraulic press PGP-45 will be delivered to the island along with staff and equipment by army helicopters by late July. Works on Big Shantar will continue until late August 2018, the ministry reported.
