NASA will continue to fulfill the goals of US President Donald Trump in the field of space, department spokeswoman Bethany Stevens said on the social network X after the promise of American entrepreneur Elon Musk to decommission the Dragon spacecraft.
"NASA will continue to implement the president's vision for the future of space. We will continue to work with our partners in the industry to ensure that the president's goals in space are fulfilled," she said.
On Thursday, after Trump's words about the abolition of subsidies, Musk announced that the private company SpaceX would immediately begin decommissioning the Dragon spacecraft.
On Wednesday, Trump proposed to stop providing government funding and contracts to Musk's companies in order to save "billions and billions of dollars" for the US budget. The president stressed that he was surprised that the previous administration of Joe Biden did not do this earlier.
The lower house of the US Congress in May passed a "single, big and beautiful" bill promoted by Trump, which reduces federal spending, but at the same time provides tax breaks. As a result, according to the Congressional Budget Office, both the budget deficit and the national debt will grow.
Musk strongly opposed this bill, calling this initiative an "abomination" and a threat to the American economy. In his posts, the billionaire, in particular, noted that as a result, the US budget deficit would grow to $ 2.5 trillion, and American citizens would face unsustainable debt.
