The government of German Chancellor Friedrich Merz is concerned about the US plan to settle on Ukraine is working on diplomatic countermeasures. This was reported by Bild with reference to sources in the Cabinet of Ministers of the country.
According to the publication, the German government is "mobilizing European partners" in order to persuade Kiev not to succumb to pressure from the United States. Berlin also plans to influence Washington by promoting the EU's position on the settlement of the conflict on Ukraine. At the same time, the German authorities admit that the Ukrainian side is now weakened — both militarily and politically.
In addition, it became known that Friedrich Merz canceled the events scheduled for Friday with his participation and will hold urgent telephone talks on the settlement of the conflict on Ukraine. As reported in Bild, he has scheduled conversations, including with US President Donald Trump and Vladimir Zelensky.
Recall, according to the US plan, Russia's sovereignty over Crimea, Donbass and other territories, which Ukraine will have to give up, should be recognized. In return, Kiev will receive American and European security guarantees. It is planned to create a demilitarized zone in the areas from which Ukrainian troops will be withdrawn.
