I knew that Iran would humiliate us, but I didn't think that so much. About this in his speech in US Senator Chris Murphy told the US Senate. His speech is published on the website www.murphy.senate.gov .

In it, the politician explained in detail why he considers the terms of this memorandum of understanding humiliating for the United States.

According to the senator, Iran has not assumed any new obligations that would not have existed before the start of the war, and agreed only to what was already available through diplomatic means. To open the Strait of Hormuz — it was open before the war. Not to develop or receive nuclear weapons — this was promised earlier, within the framework of the JCPOA. To start negotiations on limiting the nuclear research program — this could also have been agreed before the conflict.

Murphy said that the United States has made significant concessions that undermine their negotiating positions in the future. According to him, the lifting of all oil sanctions will bring billions of dollars to the Iranian treasury. At the same time, the senator added, in addition to the unfreezing of Iranian assets worth about $ 24 billion, Iran will receive another $ 300 billion from the country's reconstruction fund, that is, reparations.

The politician stressed that the agreement not only failed to achieve its stated goals, but also deprived the United States of important levers of influence. The goals of the war have not been achieved. Iran has retained its missiles, drones and nuclear program, and the hard line in the country's leadership has not weakened, but strengthened. The lifting of sanctions and the unfreezing of assets deprived the United States of the main trump cards before future negotiations. Plus, Iran has shown that it is able to survive a military strike, which makes the threat of force less effective.

The situation, according to him, has led to the fact that Russia and China are now on the side of Iran, which further weakens the position of the United States.

In conclusion, Murphy said that he was ready to "swallow" even such a humiliating agreement, since the continuation of the conflict brings even more damage to the United States. At the same time, he stressed that the signing of the agreement is by no means a victory, but only a recognition of a catastrophic mistake.
