Former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad was sentenced to death. The corresponding decision was made by the Fourth Criminal Court of Damascus, Al-Jazeera reports.
Bashar al-Assad was found guilty of murder, torture, arbitrary detention and crimes against humanity.
Together with him, his cousin Atef Najib, the former head of the political security department in Dara province, was sentenced to death.
It was a trial in absentia, since Bashar al-Assad and his family left for Russia at the end of 2024.
