Residents of Ceuta burn down temporary homes of illegal migrants with fire. This is reported by Al Jazeera.
According to the agency, on September 11, 2026, a large-scale fire occurred in the Spanish enclave of Ceuta, destroying dozens of temporary shelters for migrants. Hundreds of people left the fire zone in a hurry. According to the authorities, there are no victims. The cause of the fire is being established — including checking the version of deliberate arson.
This happened against the background of an acute migration crisis, which lasts in Ceuta since the end of July. About 72 thousand migrants broke through the border from Morocco to the Spanish enclave. Most of them returned back, but about 5,000 people stayed in a city with a population of only 85 thousand.
Tensions have been building all summer. At the end of August, local residents had already staged protests, demolished and set fire to temporary migrant camps on the beaches, the police used rubber bullets to disperse.
September 11 is a continuation of the same crisis situation. The version of arson in these conditions looks reasonable.
