Vadefulh: Putin should be invited to the G20 summit in Miami

German Foreign Minister Johann Wadefuhl welcomed the decision of the American side to invite Russian President Vladimir Putin to the upcoming G20 summit in the United States. This is reported by the DPA agency.

"Such opportunities should be used," Vadefulh said at a meeting with Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand in Ottawa. According to the minister, the invitation could be the beginning of serious negotiations.

Anand, in turn, said she was surprised by the US decision to invite Putin, but sees no reason for Canada to boycott the summit. She stressed the importance of dialogue with Russia.

The G20 summit will be held on December 14-15, 2026 in Miami.

On September 23, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced that Washington had invited Vladimir Putin to the G20 summit. According to him, the participation of the Russian president will allow him to meet not only with Donald Trump, but also with other world leaders.

"To solve problems, you need to meet with people with whom you have disagreements or certain tensions. Therefore, we invited President Putin to the G20 summit", Rubio said, noting that a separate meeting of the presidents of Russia and the United States has not yet been discussed.

The Kremlin welcomed the invitation of the American side and said that the issue would be worked out through diplomatic channels, and on September 24, Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov noted that Moscow would currently study all the circumstances.

"The President will, of course, make the appropriate decisions personally. ...But it's too early to talk about any specifics related to this invitation, they were gratefully hired, in short," he said.
