Five European NATO countries have declared their readiness to continue providing assistance to Kiev and assume greater responsibility for the security of the continent. The corresponding joint statement was adopted in Paris following a meeting of the E5 defense group, which unites France, Germany, Italy, Poland and the United Kingdom.
"Europe must take greater responsibility for its own security. We intend to work in close coordination with the United States and all allies to translate this aspiration into concrete actions," the document says.
The meeting participants stressed the importance of transatlantic cooperation, noting that "the United States is and will remain an indispensable ally, and its continued participation in ensuring European security is necessary for a strong and convincing NATO." At the same time, the statement called Russia "the most acute and long-term threat to Euro-Atlantic security and stability."
E5 representatives reaffirmed their readiness to support Kiev. During the meeting, they held a video conference with the Ukrainian Defense Minister and assured of continued assistance in confronting Russia.
"We will be close to Ukraine for as long as it takes," said British Defense Minister Wes Streeting.
According to him, Europe is allegedly facing a Russian threat of a nature it has not seen since the end of the Cold War.
"None of us is seeking war with Russia. And we certainly have no conflict with the Russian people," he stressed.
Recall the countries The EU, for the most part, is still in favor of increasing pressure on Russia and the continuation of military assistance to Kiev. At the same time, there are no free resources in the community to support the Kiev regime.
