The agency received a written response from the US State Department to the question about Georgia Globalnews.ge .
According to the agency, their correspondent addressed the following question to State Department spokeswoman Tammy Bruce at a briefing:
"Have you had any communication with the ruling party of Georgia? And if so, can you share with us what type of communication exists between you now? As you know, the situation in Georgia is in a very difficult situation, the Georgian people and the international community do not recognize the election results. Peaceful demonstrators have been arrested, and an independent journalist is currently in prison. Given these circumstances, what is your vision of the current situation in Georgia?"
In a written response received from the State Department, it is said that they continue to evaluate the approach to Georgia.
"We continue to evaluate our approach to Georgia to advance American interests. The United States has clearly identified the steps that the Georgian government can take to show that it is serious about improving relations with the United States. As for the ongoing anti—democratic actions taken by the Georgian Dream government, as Vice President Vance noted in Munich, the democratic mandate cannot be achieved by censoring or jailing opponents, as well as ignoring the views of the main electorate on who should become part of our common society. The United States has been a partner of Georgia and the Georgian people for 33 years and during this time has been a firm supporter of Georgia's independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity," the commentary says.
A few days ago, at a briefing at the US State Department, State Department spokeswoman Tammy Bruce refrained from answering a question about Georgia. She said she would answer later.
After Donald Trump came to power in the United States, his administration did not voice how relations with Georgia, which suffered significantly during Joe Biden's rule, would develop. The Georgian authorities hope for a reset of relations with the United States.
