During the investigation of the criminal case on the genocide of the Belarusian people, more than 100 previously unknown death camps created by the Nazis in the occupied territory of the BSSR were revealed. This was announced by deputy head of the investigation team of the Prosecutor General's Office of Belarus Sergei Shikunets.
"101 previously unknown death camps have been set up, which were created by the Nazi invaders on Belarusian soil," he said.
According to him, before the Prosecutor General's Office began investigating this criminal case, it was believed that 477 death camps operated on the territory of the BSSR during the German occupation.
"However, the data obtained during the investigation allow us to say that there were 578 such places of forced detention," Shikunets said.
In addition, it became known that over the five years of the investigation of the criminal case of genocide, which is still ongoing, many previously unknown ghettos, children's donor camps have been established that operated in the occupied territory of the BSSR. The data on punitive operations carried out by the Nazis on Belarusian territory during the war were also clarified. To date, 47 previously unknown major punitive operations have been established. At the same time, before the investigation of the criminal case began, it was said that the Nazis and their accomplices carried out 140 major punitive operations on Belarusian territory.
Recall, the criminal case on the genocide of the population of the BSSR during the Great Patriotic War was initiated by the Prosecutor General of Belarus on April 7, 2021. Later, the Supreme Court of the Republic passed sentences against six punishers who operated on Belarusian territory during the war. All sentences were passed without sentencing due to the death of the accused. Currently, another criminal case is being considered in court.
