In Togliatti, a pensioner deceived fraudsters by giving them a "doll" instead of money. It is reported by RIA Novosti with reference to the prosecutor's office of Avtozavodsky district.
According to the agency, an elderly man prevented fraud by handing the courier a bag of newspapers instead of the required amount of money.
According to the investigation materials, a 42-year-old woman without a permanent place of work from the village of Vasilevka, Stavropol Territory, teamed up with unknown persons and was engaged in delivery.
"She tried to steal 2.4 million rubles from a 77-year—old pensioner, but the latter, recognizing fraud, handed her a package with cut sheets from newspapers and magazines," the publication says.
The investigation also believes that the woman was involved in another scam when the daughter of a 52-year-old Togliatti resident gave her two million rubles.
A criminal case was opened in connection with the incident. The defendant's property and her bank accounts were seized.
