Iran called Armenia its conditions on the Trump Route

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Iran to Armenia Khalil Shirgolami named two conditions under which the TRIPP project (Trump's Route) will be acceptable to Tehran.

According to "Novosti — Armenia" agency, as a first condition, he noted that the territorial integrity and national sovereignty of Armenia should not be jeopardized in any way — "whether it is TRIPP or a project under any other name".

Speaking about the second condition, he stressed that "the presence of Americans and American companies near the Armenian-Iranian border, near the Iranian border, should in no way create any threat to Iran".

"If these two conditions are implemented, and if Armenia has any income and economic benefits within the framework of this or any other project, Iran will not be against it in any way. If these two important conditions are met, Iran sees no reason to intervene. At the moment, we can just wait and see if these two conditions are met in the long term," the Iranian diplomat said.

TRIPP (Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity — "Trump's Route for International Peace and Prosperity") provides for the creation of a multimodal transport and infrastructure interconnection on the territory of Armenia.

The project includes, among other things, the provision of transport links between the main part of Azerbaijan and the Nakhichevan Autonomy through the territory of Armenia, as well as the integration of the route into The trans-Caspian trade route.

To implement the project, it is envisaged to create a joint Armenian-American company TRIPP Development Company. According to the framework agreement, 74% of the company's shares are supposed to be transferred to the American side, 26% to Armenia. The company should contribute to the implementation of infrastructure projects covering railways and highways, oil and gas pipelines, fiber optic lines and the electric power industry.

At the same time, the project should be implemented while fully preserving the territorial integrity, sovereignty and jurisdiction of Armenia. As stated by RA Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan, the republic will retain full control over the state border, border and customs procedures on its territory.

On May 26, 2026, Armenia and the United States initialed a framework agreement on strategic cooperation on TRIPP. In July, the Armenian government launched the process of its ratification.

On September 16, the Constitutional Court of Armenia recognized the obligations enshrined in the framework agreement between Armenia and the USA on TRIPP as corresponding to the Constitution of the Republic. After the decision The document must be sent to the National Assembly for final ratification.
