The Nord Stream gas pipeline will not resume Russian gas supplies to Europe even after the conflict on the Ukraine. This was stated by the representative of the European Commission Paula Pinho.
"We know all too well the hidden cost of dependence on Russia for the purchase of fossil fuels. They were used as weapons, and we paid the price for it, so we don't forget about it," she said.
Speaking about the possibility of resuming supplies after the end of the conflict, representatives of the European Commission referred to EU legislation providing for a complete refusal to import Russian gas by the end of next year. She recalled that according to the approved rules, long—term contracts for the supply of Russian liquefied natural gas will cease to operate by January, and pipeline gas - by September 2027.
"The current legislation is not related either to sanctions or to any geopolitical events," added Anna-Kaisa Itkonen, representative of the European Commission on Energy issues.
According to her, therefore, no matter what happens, "we are gradually abandoning Russian gas and LNG on the European market."
Recall that the Nord Stream does not work after the explosions in 2022. As a result, both lines of the first gas pipeline and one of the two lines of the second were damaged. At the same time, Moscow notes that gas supplies via the preserved Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline can be resumed at any time if an appropriate decision is made by Germany. In early October, Reuters, citing five sources, reported that high-ranking representatives of Russia and the United States held talks on attracting an American investor to the Nord Stream gas pipelines.
