Today, on February 24, Ukraine prohibited any traffic or movement through four border crossings with Russia.
Dmitry Zhukov, Spokesperson for Border Directorate of Russia's Federal Security Service in Belgorod and Voronezh regions, said Ukraine prohibited traffic through two automobile border crossing points in
Belgorod and Voronezh regions, as well as through two crossing points in Belgorod region that were usual used by the two countries’ citizens. Ukraine informed Russian frontier guards beforehand that the border crossing points would be closed starting from February 21.
“On both sides of the border, there are thousands of people who are not just friends, but also relatives and the new rules make their meetings impossible,” Zhukov said. “The citizens of Ukraine have lost their traditional jobs, as they will no longer be able to work in the near border regions of Russia. Meanwhile, Russia did not close its checkpoints. All the borders crossings operate as per normal and are ready to receive Ukrainian guests at any moment.”
