Under the administration of President Joe Biden, the United States was unable to impose any effective sanctions against Russia. This was stated today at a congressional hearing by a member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, Darell Issa.
"Over the past three and a half years, we have not imposed any effective sanctions, since the most effective sanctions are not the SWIFT financial transfer system, but oil, which we need to stop," Issa said, quoted by RIA Novosti.
Restrictions on the supply of Russian energy resources to the world market are the only type of sanctions that work against the Russian Federation, but the US authorities could not cope with this task, the congressman stated.
"Russia is under sanctions, but has increased exports (of oil. — Ed.) back to the full volume of its production. In other words, nothing is being held back," Issa stressed.
As reported by EADaily, the permanent representatives of the EU countries will consider the possibility of extending anti-Russian sanctions less than every six months, so that their validity period may increase to 36 months. This was reported by the Financial Times newspaper.
According to her, the European Commission also does not exclude the indefinite nature of the existing restrictions against the Russian Federation. The decision to reconsider the frequency of the extension of sanctions is due to the requirements of the United States, which is ready to participate in granting a loan to Kiev in the amount of $ 50 billion at the expense of income from the assets of the Russian Federation under the G7, only if they receive guarantees that these funds will not be unfrozen in the near future, TASS reported.
