Abkhazia is one of Russia's closest allies, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said during a briefing on December 25.
"Abkhazia is one of our closest allies due to close historical, political, economic, socio-cultural ties. Our country continues to provide assistance to Sukhum in the areas of security, socio-economic development, and other important areas on the terms defined by numerous legal acts between our countries," she said.
Zakharova stressed that allied relations presuppose a balance of mutual obligations.
"We proceed from the fact that in Sukhumi will pass its part of the way in accordance with the aforementioned documents, including with regard to the harmonization of legislation in creating the necessary conditions for Russian investments and so on," she said.
EADaily reported that since September 1, Russia has suspended the financing of the budget of Abkhazia due to non-fulfillment by Sukhum of obligations under the agreements.
