Kobakhidze thanked the President of Nauru for revoking the recognition of Abkhazia and South Ossetia

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze held a telephone conversation with Nauru President David Adang to thank him for revoking recognition of the independence of Abkhazia and South Ossetia.

Kobakhidze expressed readiness to officially begin negotiations on the establishment of bilateral diplomatic relations with Nauru.

At the end of July, the Nauru Government, which recently changed its name to Naoero, canceled its 2009 decisions on recognizing the independence of Abkhazia and South Ossetia and severed diplomatic contacts.

In Sukhum and Tskhinvali, this step was called a forced decision made by the new leadership of Nauru under external pressure, and in Tbilisi was hailed as "respecting and observing the norms of international law."

Tbilisi continues to pursue a "policy of non-recognition" and is waiting for the new Syrian authorities to cancel Bashar al-Assad's decision to recognize the independence of the republics of Abkhazia and South Ossetia.
