US President Donald Trump said that the BRICS countries should not try to create their own currency or support any other as a substitute for the US dollar in international trade, threatening otherwise to impose 100% duties, the head of state said in a statement published on the TRUTH Social social network owned by him.
"We will require these apparently hostile countries to commit not to create a new BRICS currency and not to support any other currency to replace the mighty US dollar. Otherwise, they will face the introduction of 100% duties, and they can say goodbye to the opportunity to sell their goods on the magnificent American market," Trump wrote.
He stressed that the United States will not allow the substitution of the dollar in international trade, and warned that countries that make such attempts will face tough trade measures.
"They will have to look for another country ready to become a victim. None of the BRICS countries has a chance to replace the dollar in international trade or anywhere else. Any state that tries to do this will say hello to duties and goodbye to America!" — Trump added.
Earlier it was reported that the BRICS countries discussed the possibility of expanding settlements in national currencies and creating a common currency within the bloc, but no final decisions were made on this issue.
