The Finnish authorities refused to supply eggs to the United States because of possible bureaucratic difficulties. This is reported by the broadcaster Yle.
The United States has appealed to Denmark and a number of other European countries with a request to export eggs to the American market due to their shortage, Reuters reports with reference to the Association of egg producers of the Nordic countries.
The United States has appealed to the Finnish authorities on the export of eggs, the Finnish Poultry Association told Yle. Its executive director, Leera Lehtilya, said on Saturday that she did not see an opportunity to supply these products now, since Finland had not yet held talks with the United States on "market access." This long process may require lengthy inspections, she noted.
"Launching exports is not such a simple matter, since there are no established rules," said Lekhtilya, quoted by RIA Novosti.
According to her, Finland does not have permission to export eggs to the United States, and to obtain it will require a lot of bureaucratic processes and research, since the country has never exported such products.
"Millions of birds had to be slaughtered there because of bird flu. In total, we have four million laying hens in Finland. The amount that we could export would not solve the problem of the shortage of eggs," Lehtilya stressed to Yle.
Recall, the United States faced a sharp increase in egg prices due to the avian flu epidemic. This is one of the first problems that the Donald Trump administration had to solve.
