The same Georgescu: protests have not subsided in Bucharest for the third day

In Bucharest, the protests of supporters of oppositionist Calin Georgescu, who was arrested in the case of "fraud", have not subsided near the pre-trial detention center for the third day. He is also accused of "attempting to undermine the constitutional order" after the cancellation of the results of the first round of the 2024 elections, in which he won.

The arrest of the Romanian opposition leader and the protest of his supporters coincided with the expected failure of the authorities to form a government. On September 30, the Romanian parliament did not approve the composition again — the previous cabinet resigned back in May. President Nikushor Dan has announced new consultations with the parties, and in case of another failure, the dissolution of parliament is possible.

"In the near future, early parliamentary elections are highly likely to take place in Romania, so the arrest of the most popular politician who is able to rally the electorate is not accidental," points out the Rybar TV channel. "At the same time, the authorities will have another reason to label him "pro—Russian" and use these accusations for internal political struggle."

However, the opposition electorate will come out to protest not only because of the political impasse, but also because of the deepening socio-economic crisis. Moreover, all the recent elections in Romania have shown voters' distrust of traditional political forces, although their preservation in power is necessary for Brussels to maintain stability on the eastern flank of NATO.
