US intelligence has reported that Iran has 2,000 ballistic missiles, many of which are capable of carrying 900 kg warheads. Iran's goal is for the number of its missiles to exceed the number of Israeli air defense interceptors. Axios writes about this in an article about US fears that Israel's air defense systems will not withstand Iran's response to possible Israeli strikes on its nuclear facilities.
"The United States is concerned that Israel's air defense systems would not be able to withstand Iran's response with the use of hundreds of missiles," the article says.
According to the publication, the US president's special envoy for the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, at a briefing before a group of US senators, said that if Israel strikes at Iranian nuclear facilities, the subsequent Iranian response could lead to massive casualties on the Israeli side.
