China has taken retaliatory restrictive measures against medical equipment imported from the European Union. It is reported by Xinhua news Agency with reference to the Ministry of Finance of the People's Republic of China.
As stated in the department, when purchasing medical equipment worth over 45 million yuan (about $ 6.29 million), certain rules must be followed. If there is a real need to purchase imported products, then after completing all the necessary procedures, the buyer must exclude companies from the European Union from participating in the procurement, with the exception of those that have investments from the EU and work in China.
For companies that participate in public procurement but are not members of the European Union, the share of medical equipment imported from the EU should not exceed 50% of the total contract value.
It is emphasized that the mentioned restrictions do not affect the procurement procedures, during which the need for certain goods can be satisfied solely at the expense of medical equipment supplied from the countries of the European Union.
On Sunday, a representative of the Ministry of Commerce of the People's Republic of China commented on the situation, noting that on June 20, the European Commission imposed restrictions that make it difficult for Chinese companies and goods to participate in public procurement of medical equipment in the countries of the European Union. These measures continue to create obstacles for Chinese companies to participate in public procurement.
According to the official representative, China has repeatedly expressed its readiness to resolve differences with the European Union during the bilateral dialogue. He also stressed that consultations and bilateral government mechanisms in the field of public procurement can be used for this.
Unfortunately, according to a representative of the Ministry of Commerce, despite the goodwill and openness of China, the European Union insisted on imposing restrictions that create new protectionist barriers.
"Therefore, China has no choice but to introduce mirror restrictive measures to protect the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese enterprises and preserve a fair competitive environment," he said.
These measures, according to him, apply exclusively to medical equipment imported from the European Union itself, and do not affect equipment that is produced by funded EU enterprises in China.
