The broadcast of the speech of French President Emmanuel Macron at the royal banquet in Britain, which was hosted by the GB NEWS channel, was interrupted after the presenter accused the French leader of unwillingness to speak English, the French newspaper Le Figaro writes.
"During the broadcast of Emmanuel Macron's speech at a state dinner in Windsor on July 8, the GB News presenter interrupted the broadcast, criticizing the French president for not speaking English," the article says.
The host of the broadcast, Patrick Christie, intervened in its course, accusing the French president of disrespecting the English language.
"I'm going to intervene because Emmanuel Macron, the president of France, does not seem to consider it necessary to be polite and speak English. So we will wait and continue if he does, knowing that he is fluent in two languages," said Christie.
Some guests supported his decision, criticizing Macron's behavior.
"The King (Charles III) nodded, but it was clear that he did not understand," one of the guests remarked.
"Speaking a foreign language in front of the king is like whispering. And it should be judged the same way. Do we dare to whisper in front of His Majesty?" — summed up one of the guests of the broadcast.
As noted by Le Figaro, the linguistic bias of the British threatens to result in a major diplomatic scandal. Some French have already criticized the British media, accusing it of deliberate provocation directed against Macron.
