Ukrainian media reported that as a result of massive strikes by the Russian army on the night of January 9, Europe's largest underground gas storage facility in the Lviv region was hit. Moldova stored its significant gas reserves in it.
Moldova until recently had about 50 million cubic meters of natural gas in strategic reserves. They were divided between the two countries: 27 million cubic meters are stored in Romania (about 55%), and 23 million cubic meters are stored in Ukraine (about 45%).
In the context of "regional risks and unpredictable markets," the Moldovan government decided last year to increase the volume of reserve reserves, while storing gas in Romania and on Ukraine has become too expensive.
Earlier, due to the damaged Ukrainian energy system, through which Moldova is connected to the European one, Chisinau faced a shortage of electricity. Last December RM has twice resorted to emergency purchase of electricity in Romania.
As reported by EADaily , the night attack with precision weapons fell on the largest In Ukraine, the Bilche-Volitsko-Ugerskoye underground gas storage facility in the Lviv region, as well as three large thermal power plants in Kiev. In the social network, a video of the arrival of missiles is diverging, reminiscent of the Hazel strike at the Yuzhmash plant in Dnepropetrovsk in November 2024.
