In Germany, it is planned to produce tanks made of steel that does not use fossil fuels. The corresponding agreement was signed by SSAB and the German defense technology corporation Rheinmetall.
"SSAB and the German defense technology company Rheinmetall have signed an intention to supply steel that does not use fossil fuels. This is an important milestone, as Rheinmetall becomes the first manufacturer of defense equipment to introduce decarbonized steel into its production, which opens the way to a new generation of environmentally friendly products,"the report says.
As stated by the head of SSAB's Special steels division, Per Elfgren, "Together we are determined to meet the demand for reducing co₂ emissions from both manufacturers and customers."
In recent years, the green agenda has become dominant in most EU countries, primarily in Germany. In 2021, SSAB produced the world's first non-fossil fuel steel. Since then, a number of pilot deliveries have been made to selected partners in various industries.
