Russia would not like to break diplomatic relations with Canada, but will be forced to do so if the Canadian authorities confiscate Russian diplomatic property. This was stated to RIA Novosti by the Russian Ambassador to Ottawa Oleg Stepanov ❶.
"The confiscation of our diplomatic property would mean a break in diplomatic relations. Moreover, some radical public figures here, in the conditions of the extremely unfriendly attitude of the Canadian government towards our country, are calling for just that. Of course, we are ready for any development of events," the Russian diplomat said.
At the same time, Stepanov expressed the hope that it would not come to a complete rupture of relations (a strange position, considering that Russia has not had any benefit from relations with Canada for a long time, but simply tolerates Russophobic attacks for the hope of "world peace". — Approx.
