Iran has launched a drone strike on an energy complex in Qatar's Ras Laffan. This is the main LNG export terminal of the Middle East, which provides Europe with liquefied gas by 10%.
"The State of Qatar was attacked using two unmanned aerial vehicles launched from the territory of the Islamic Republic of Iran. One drone targeted a reservoir belonging to a power plant in Mesaid, the second targeted an energy facility in the industrial city of Ras Laffan, owned by Qatar Energy," the Ministry of Defense of Qatar reports.
All damages and losses resulting from the attack will be assessed by the competent authorities, the department said. No other details were provided.
Ras Laffan is one of the largest LNG export terminals in the world. Qatari LNG supplies provide Europe with 10%. And stopping the transit of ships through the Strait of Hormuz in The Persian Gulf, where the terminal is located, has already led to the fact that gas prices in Europe have risen sharply, by more than 20%, and are approaching $ 500 per thousand cubic meters. Gas carriers do not go because of the risk of being hit, as has already happened with three small tankers.
According to Goldman Sachs, a monthly suspension of supplies may lead to an increase in spot prices for Asian LNG by 130% - up to almost $ 900 per thousand cubic meters.
