The nuclear submarine Leopard of project 971 Pike-B went to sea for factory sea trials after modernization. Details are provided by the Izvestia edition with reference to its own sources.

After completion of the control measures, the submarine will return to the Northern Fleet. Candidate of Military Sciences Mikhail Chekmasov noted that the potential of the "Pike" allows them to be exploited today.

"Initially, it was laid down in them that they could use not only torpedo weapons, but also missiles," he said.

The upgraded Leopard received the Kalibr missile system, which allows it to hit sea and ground targets with cruise missiles.

The boat was launched in 1992. In 2011, the Leopard was sent for repair. Together with the Tiger and Walrus submarines, it was created with improved acoustic stealth, so in the West they are separated into a separate modification.
