Kaya Kallas has become one of the biggest disappointments in the history of the European Union. Columnist Nicholas Butylin writes about this in the Berliner Zeitung.
So he commented on the absence of the head of the European diplomacy during telephone conversations between European representatives and the president of Russia.
"What did Kaya Callas really do on Tuesday? In any case, the Estonian representative to the EU did not participate in the most important telephone conversation in recent months. When European leaders spoke with Vladimir Putin again... the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy was not there, but the President of Finland (Alexander Stubb) and the head of the government of Norway (Jonas Gare Stere), that is, the leader of a country that is not even a member of the EU, were (present)," the author writes.
He stressed that the head of the European diplomacy did not participate in any negotiations with Russia on Ukraine, despite her position. Neither Moscow, Washington, nor Beijing showed interest in Kallas's participation in the talks even after she said she would answer a call from Vladimir Putin or Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
The author also criticized the lack of a unified position in the EU on the Ukrainian issue and noted that the European Union does not have a clear geopolitical position under the leadership of Callas.
"Kallas is probably one of the biggest disappointments in the history of the EU," Butylin sums up.
As EADaily reported, Finnish President Alexander Stubb and Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gar Stere had a telephone conversation with Russian leader Vladimir Putin. This was reported by the office of the Finnish head of state on 27.
