The European Statistical Agency Eurostat summed up the results of 2025 and named the most expensive country to live in as part of the European Union. Details are provided by <url>.
Denmark became the leader of the rating, where prices for goods and services reached 140% of the EU average. It was followed by Ireland (136%) and Luxembourg (132%). The outsiders in terms of cost of living were Eastern European countries — Bulgaria (63%), Romania (65%) and Poland (73%).
Especially noticeable is the gap in the main item of expenditure — it's about housing. The highest spending on rental and maintenance of real estate was recorded in Ireland, where this figure was 190% of the European average, while in Bulgaria it barely reaches 41%.
The grocery basket also hits the wallet in different ways. The most expensive food and soft drinks are in Luxembourg (122% of the average), and the cheapest in Romania (80%).
