In Takhtamukaysky district of Adygea, an 84-year-old woman died from bites of a primate that ran out of the enclosure. This was reported by the press service of the regional department of the TFR.
Exotic animals, including primates of various species, were kept in one of the private houses in the horticultural association.
"On July 2, 2026, an 84-year—old local resident who was caring for animals was not convinced of the safety of her actions during feeding and opened the enclosure, as a result of which the primate attacked the woman and bit her lower limbs," the report says.
The victim died from her injuries at the scene. Also, the primate attacked the 39-year-old grandson of a woman, also causing various injuries. The man was taken to a medical facility for assistance.
"As follows from the materials of the criminal case, exotic animals belong to the granddaughter of the deceased woman, and she placed the animals on the territory of a private country house, where they were illegally kept," the press service also noted.
The number and types of animals kept are not specified.
A criminal case has been opened on this fact under Part 1 of Article 109 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (causing death by negligence).
Currently, all necessary measures are being taken to establish all the circumstances of the incident. During the investigation, a legal assessment will be given to the actions (inaction) of the regulatory authorities in the field of legal regulation of the maintenance of exotic animals.
