Two Moscow theaters under the direction of Bezrukov "return to their native harbor"

The Moscow Provincial Theater (MGT) will be integrated into the Moscow Art Theater named after M. Gorky. This was announced in an interview with TASS by theater and film actor, People's Artist of Russia, artistic director of both institutions Sergey Bezrukov.

"This year we have a historic event — the Moscow Provincial Theater (MGT) is being integrated into the Moscow Art Theater named after M. Gorky. It is integrated — it becomes part of the Moscow Art Theater. At the same time, the building in Kuzminki becomes the Provincial stage of the Gorky Moscow Art Theater," he said.

According to Bezrukov, there is a historical context in this event. The Moscow Regional Drama Theater named after A. N. Ostrovsky appeared thanks to the artist of the Moscow Art Theater named after M. Gorky Sergey Sverchkov, who organized an amateur theater team on the basis of the Frunze House of Education Workers. Later, the brigade became the 4th collective farm-state Farm Mikhailovsky Theater, and after that — the Moscow Regional Collective Farm Drama Theater named after A. Ostrovsky.

"In 2013, the Moscow Regional Drama Theater named after A. Ostrovsky, by merging with the Moscow Regional State Chamber Theater, became known as the Moscow Provincial Theater. Now, in fact, there has been a return to his native harbor: the Moscow Provincial Theater has become part of the Gorky Moscow Art Theater," Bezrukov concluded.

As EADaily reported, in June of this year it became known that the conductor, People's Artist of Russia Valery Gergiev, who heads the Bolshoi and Mariinsky Theaters, began work on reviving the Directorate of the Imperial Theaters.

"We want to return what was originally, to create the Directorate of the Imperial Theaters," the musician said.
