The academician explained what caused the cases of bear attacks on people

The increase in the number of incidents related to the attack of bears on people is caused by a whole range of objective reasons, according to the president of the Russian Academy of Sciences Gennady Krasnikov.

In a comment to RIA Novosti, the scientist explained that such incidents have become more frequent due to climate change, which, on the one hand, has led to an increase in the predator population, and on the other, to a reduction in the food supply.

The academician stated that the climate in Russia is getting warmer, which leads to a change in the migration routes of animals. It is clear that this does not please the people who live on the paths of these routes.

" Of course, science can explain it. Bears are noticeable because they attack people, but if you look, other animals come to us, and foxes come to the city, and wolves are also quite frequent visitors, sometimes we see tigers," Krasnikov said.

At the same time, the growth of the bear population and the shortage of food supply are concomitant processes that force bears to look for new sources of food and expand their range.

The President of the Russian Academy of Sciences believes that for each region it is necessary to determine how much the food supply has changed, how much the bear population has increased, and what else has happened besides that.

" And recommendations should be based on this. This is not so much a scientific as a technical task — each region can have its own recommendation, " Krasnikov concluded.

Earlier, EADaily reported that in the Krasnoyarsk Territory, a bear killed a resident of the village of Voznesenka right on the plot near the house. This case was the seventh fatal bear attack on a person in the Krasnoyarsk Territory this season.
