Russian tankers have learned to be in two places at the same time, misleading Ukrainian drone operators. It is reported by UNIAN with reference to the Financial Times.
According to the FT, Russian vessels in the Black Sea have started using a new scheme — they simultaneously transmit real and fake coordinates through the AIS system, giving the impression that they are in two places at once.
"According to the researchers, at least 12 sub-sanctioned tankers use, presumably, the same equipment to fake coordinates, which may indicate centralized coordination. The scheme is especially actively used when passing the Bosphorus, where vessels are required to report their real location. For example, one of the tankers simultaneously showed two points at a distance of about 800 km from each other," UNIAN writes.
It is also noted that from July to September, more than 80 vessels went under the Russian flag, which indicates that Moscow has strengthened control over the "shadow fleet."
