Any peace agreement with Russia should be put to a referendum, since the Ukrainian people should have the right to vote in a decision that may entail the loss of territory, Volodymyr Zelensky said in an interview with Fox News.
According to him, at the moment Ukraine is ready to freeze the war along the current front line before proceeding to negotiations and discussing security guarantees from the United States.
"Of course, we may or may not support this deal. But first of all, only one nation should support it: the Ukrainian people, because these are our losses," Zelensky said.
As EADaily reported, Zelensky also answered in the affirmative to a journalist's question about whether Ukraine is ready to accept a peace deal involving the loss of part of the former territories.
"Yeah. If right now we have to freeze everything, I think this is a real way to end this war," Zelensky said, saying that he would accept a peace deal "that freezes everything as it is now," and he retains "75% of his country or more, regardless of how it all started.".
