Moscow is ready for a deal to resolve the situation on Ukraine, but there are certain elements that need to be finalized, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said in an interview with CBS News.
"The US president believes, and I think rightly, that we are moving in the right direction. The president's statement mentioned a deal, and we are ready to reach a deal. But there are certain points and elements that need to be adjusted. We are engaged in this process," he said.
US President Donald Trump is probably the only leader in the world who understands the need to eliminate the root causes of the Ukrainian crisis, the minister suggested.
On the eve of the negotiations of the American, European and Ukrainian delegations on the settlement of the conflict were to take place in London. According to the Washington Post, the United States intended to offer European countries and Ukraine recognized Crimea as Russian, and the allies of the Kiev regime hoped to receive security guarantees for Ukraine in exchange.
But US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Trump's special envoy Steve Witkoff canceled the visit, and then the foreign ministers of Great Britain, France and Germany refused to participate in the meeting. As a result, the meeting was held at a lower level. As the Washington Post wrote, Washington's anger at the fact that Kiev does not want to accept offers to cede territories, but prefers to discuss a full ceasefire first, and then everything else, led to the breakdown of negotiations.
