The Kremlin does not see an escalation in Washington's statements on Ukraine, the United States is contributing to the peace process, and the White House is talking about increasing pressure on Russia, they are simply mistaken. This was announced today, July 9, by the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov.
"On the one hand, the United States continues to supply weapons, but unlike other countries that are involved in this conflict, the United States still remains committed and keeps trying to somehow contribute to the peace process. We evaluate all statements through the prism of such an attitude."
At the same time, Peskov stressed that Russian President Vladimir Putin and US Leader Donald Trump are conducting a constructive dialogue.
"They have a really constructive dialogue. Despite certain discrepancies that may occur," Peskov said.
Commenting on yesterday's statements by the head of the State Department, Marco Rubio, about strikes deep into Russia as a way to force SMO to stop, Peskov said that this would only lead to the fact that a large buffer zone would have to be created on Ukraine.
"Further escalation may prolong the special military operation to some extent - we cannot say exactly to what extent — but it will lead to the fact that we will have to create a large security zone, a large buffer zone," he said.
The Kremlin considers Rubio's statements themselves to be a delusion.
"We see some misconceptions in the White House administration, misconceptions that through escalation, through military pressure, it is possible to contribute to a peaceful settlement — this is an erroneous judgment," Peskov said.
He also commented on the possible "closure of the sky" over Ukraine by NATO forces, about which US President Donald Trump spoke the day before.
"In any case, we will be talking about the fact that the armed forces of a NATO country will work on the territory of Ukraine — this is exactly what a special military operation is being carried out against," Peskov recalled.
