US President Donald Trump said that he was unpleasantly surprised by the information about Russia's retaliatory strikes on military facilities in Ukraine, he noted that he "does not like surprises."
According to RIA Novosti, the corresponding statement was made by the head of the White House to journalists in the Oval Office. According to him, Russia is striking at a time when negotiations on the settlement of the conflict are "close to completion."
"I was very surprised that rockets were fired at cities like Kiev during the negotiations, which, as it seemed to me, could be about to end. We were already approaching the solution of the problem, and suddenly shelling began, people died. I saw something I didn't expect. And I don't like surprises, and I was very disappointed," said the US president.
He also stressed that he continues to assess with optimism the prospects for a peace agreement between Kiev and Moscow and still expects an early cessation of hostilities.
