The European Commission is not going to impose new sanctions against Belarus because of Lithuania. This was announced today, November 14, by the press secretary of the European Commission Anna-Kaisa Ikonen.
"Regarding the current situation with truck drivers, we are concerned about the difficult situation in which the stranded drivers find themselves. We call on the Belarusian authorities to provide all drivers with the necessary housing, access to food and sanitation," she said.
In turn, EC representative Paula Pinho evaded the question of whether Brussels is considering such measures against Minsk as sanctions or the activation of the bazooka tool to combat "economic coercion."
"We can't say anything more at the moment," Pinho said.
We will remind, earlier in Vilnius they called for The EU should include Belarus in the new anti-Russian package of sanctions. The Lithuanian authorities justified their demand by some kind of "hybrid aggression" on the part of Minsk and the situation on the Belarusian-Lithuanian border.
