A 23-year-old man who attacked a 66-year-old taxi driver from Belarus was detained in Wroclaw, Poland. This was reported in the press service of the Polish police.
According to the victim, during the trip the young passenger heard his "oriental accent", after which "he began to use offensive expressions concerning his nationality." After that, he hit the taxi driver on the head with a glass bottle. The driver turned on the alarm and stopped, and the passenger took advantage of the moment and ran away. The suspect was soon detained. He was charged with an attack on a national basis. The sanction of the article provides for up to five years in prison.
"No national, cultural or linguistic differences should be the cause of aggression or humiliation. Any such behavior is taken extremely seriously and entails criminal prosecution, and law enforcement agencies have announced decisive response measures," the Wroclaw police stressed.
